Beautiful.
the main church of pietraperzia. just a regular big church
Pietraperzia village in the Nisseno valley. In preparation for Easter it comes alive with popular festivals and the first is the feast of St. Joseph. The drama of the flight into Egypt is relived in ancient Sicilian language.
The donkey waits in front of the Church of Santa Maria di Gesù for the arrival of Joseph, Mary and Jesus accompanied by the Angel and followed by the musical band. After mass the procession moves to the Mother Church where three Herod soldiers await them who have been ordered to kill Jesus. The moment the three soldiers draw their swords the angel stops them with his exclamation "Deh, stop the barbaric hand. " Soldiers ask for forgiveness and withdraw. Only then can the Holy Family have access to the table set by the population in front of the Church and Jesus tracing the sign of the cross blesses her and also blesses the bread with parts of the body or stick.
In this church we find the painting "Virgin in Glory between Saints Peter, Paul, Dorotea and Agata" (1604) by the painter Filippo Paladini (1544-1614).
