The Church of San Sebastiano, communicating with the ancient monastery of the Benedictine nuns, was one of the favorite destinations of the young Verga, in love with a young novice from the convent who then inspired him with the novel "Storia di una capinera". "The history of this church is connected to that of the adjacent convent of the Dominican fathers. These, since 1584, wanted to get the church of San Sebastiano, but had to give up for that of the archangel San Michele. In 1634 the Dominicans began to build both the church and the convent in the place where it now exists ”. In 1693 the church suffered extensive damage and was rebuilt in the early 1700s, according to the style of the time, with a single-nave plan and the baroque-rococo facade in carved stone. The interior preserves interesting eighteenth-century stuccos and frescoes, especially in the vault; on the walls you can admire the Via Crucis reproduced on the precious ceramic tiles of Caltagirone, while in the apse there is an admirable wooden frame, decorated with rococo motifs in pure gold. In the main altar there is a remarkable painting of 1503 by the painter Philemon portraying the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary accompanied by two angels. To the right of the painting are Dominicans kneeling, while to the left of the nuns of the same order. Above is the Eternal Father. Around the picture are painted the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, from a later period. An ancient statue of San Sebastiano Martire is kept there. A bronze door built by the Vizzinese craftsman Gregorio Failla has recently been placed on the main entrance. In 2007, a bronze statue of Padre Pio was placed in the square in front of the church
