The liturgical celebration of this Saint, perhaps less known than that of Siena, can be an opportunity for a deepening of the religious and at the same time discover a piece of the history and tradition of Cammarata to many unknown.
Near the Castle, at the foot of the majestic tower, there is a small church with a white facade and a small bell tower dedicated to Santa Caterina.
It was built in the sixteenth century, as it is mentioned in a pastoral document of 1540.
With a single nave, the church is decorated in its interior with elegant stuccoes probably from the 18th century. In the choir, some scenes of the martyrdom of the Saint are depicted, always in stucco.
On the main altar there is a wooden statue of the Saint, while on the side altars there are the statues of Saint Rita and the Madonna of Lourdes. A masterpiece of sculptural art is testified by a beautiful processional cross decorated in pure gold dated 1574.
The district is very fond of the church and although there are no priests available to be able to take care of it and celebrate mass, some faithful, among them Mr. Gino Consiglio, have committed themselves to open it to worship at least in some periods of the year. Among these also on November 25, the feast of the titular Santa.
