Near Terlizzi, in the ancient village of Sovero, this sanctuary, called the Madonna di Sovereto, dates back to the mid-twelfth century and seems to have been erected above the subterranean cavity of Sovero where the icon of the Virgin and Child was found. today in the church. Inside there are traces of Byzantine frescoes, and an altarpiece in carved and gilded wood from an abandoned church. Moreover, there is the sacred icon of the Black Madonna, patron saint. In the middle of the nave, the floor has a metal grating from which one can glimpse the cave below and, not far away, there are three tombstones. The cavity preserves the first image of the Madonna di Sovereto. To visit it you need to park just outside the ancient village. Church of a small and ancient village on the outskirts of Terlizzi, with a medieval flavor. It is said that it was the seat of the Templars. In fact, both in the church, on its facade and in the atrium in front, you can see symbols attributable to the Templars.
