Originally built in the 9th century, the church was rebuilt in Romanesque style around the middle of the 11th century; at the beginning of the twelfth an exonarthex was added, closed and incorporated into the building in the following century; between 1712 and 1745 the parish church was internally modified in baroque forms, but the additions were eliminated between 1927 and 1942, with complex interventions aimed at bringing to light the lost Romanesque aspect. The façade is decorated with some 13th-century sculptures set, partly coming from the ancient ambo which was abandoned in the 16th century; inside the narthex preserves the colonnade with 11th century capitals, while the frontal of today's main altar is made up of the 13th century slab of the Martyrdom of Santa Margherita, also obtained from the destroyed pulpit; the church also houses a valuable bronze cross-reliquary, dating back to the 10th or 11th century.

Very beautiful, definitely worth a visit.

Medieval parish church several times enlarged and modified over the centuries; to note: in the center, a miser is crushed by the weight of three saddlebags and by a treasure chest, on which a demon is raging. On the left another winged devil pushes the lustful into the open jaws of a monster. On the right, five damned burn in a boiler: the whole of the images represents the eternal punishment of the seven deadly sins. On the right side another plate shows two figures entwined, perhaps fighting each other or perhaps in a dance step. Two other figures, one of which is angular, are in a prayer position. The slab, used as an antependium of the altar, which narrates the martyrdom of Santa Margherita and the capitals of the columns is extraordinary

Pieve cited in 854. In Fornovo the two branches of the Francigena are found. The buffered narthex presents some very beautiful sculptures, including that of the Capital Deaths. Inside the slab of the martyrdom of Santa Margherita that is separated from the two to the parish of Bardone
