Oratorio della Torre

Exquisite oratory dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua. The tombstones with the names of the local people who have had to emigrate are moved. To admire the bell that towers over the building.

The building dates back to 1663 by the first rector of St. Anna, don Domenico Dinelli. The oratory of S. Antonio da Padova, or della Torre, was probably built on a defensive settlement, now disappeared, on the spur raised on the stream below the Perticara stream. The building has rather considerable dimensions, with the traditional horseshoe plant. The very simple façade is characterized by windows of oval shapes typical of the nineteenth century next to the portal; at the top of the ridge there is a fine sailing bell tower. All the walls are plastered with the exception of the sandstone frames of the facade rectangle and the openings. The remaking of the roof that was once made of sandstone slabs was replaced by galvanized sheets and by covering the façade with a wooden paneling and a similar covering in the protruding ceiling of the eaves on the front. Inside there are the tombstones with the names of the many Santannesi emigrants and dead in America.
