Must see. The Duomo alone is worth the travel
The view of the Duomo leaves me breathless. And it's one of the most beautiful and impressive facades I have ever seen. Gothic masterpiece. The cathedral of Orvieto was built on the orders of Pope Urban IV to adequately commemorate and venerate the Corporal of Bolsena. The cathedral is one of the greatest architectural masterpieces of the late Middle Ages. On the beautiful Gothic-style facade we can admire architectural decorations ranging from the fourteenth to the twentieth century, including a large rose window, golden mosaics and three majestic bronze doors. The building is monumental and beautiful. Interior altar and two chapels are also exceptional. The interior is embellished with two chapels frescoed by some of the greatest Italian painters of the period, among which we can admire the famous Last Judgment by Luca Signorelli. Marvelous.
Trust me. Wait until the afternoon sun turns the glass mosaics golden for your first visit to the Duomo. Pop-rocks in my brain went off and blew my mind. One of the most enriching experiences of a man-made structure in my life. We passed a group of elderly Italians weeping at the beauty.
Simply breathtaking. The architecture is stunning. The façade is a marvel of wonder. Definitely worth a visit and some photographs. It is possible to go inside, tickets are purchased at the museum to the right of the building (as you look at the façade).
As a first town to visit after arriving in Rome, I was enthralled with the beauty and sanctity that was found here. The Duomo Di Orvieto overwhelmed me upon walking up on it. Truly a masterpiece of design, and gargantuan in size. Nothing we build today even comes close the rivaling these great buildings of the past.
