Maybe I met Salvatore Ferrragamo in the guide when I read about Capri. This shop was the first encounter with this luxury brand. True, I only looked at the strange but brutal-priced sandals, bags and other trinkets from the street front. Otherwise the showcase is very minimalist, hardly anything. Supposedly, Jackie Kennedy, when she had sailed on Aristotel Onassis on the Mediterranean Sea, stopping at Capri Island always bought a lot of Ferragamo sandals because she liked their comfort. I assume this has also made the brand's reputation worse. Salvatore Ferragamo was born in the nearby Naples - a poor family - in 1898, and then moved to the USA, where she first repaired and scaled up shoes in Santa Barbara and then in Hollywood. Here the star world watched her and liked her shoes. One hitch was: the shoes were eye-catching, but "hurt" on the feet. So he studied anatomy at the University of South Carolina to improve their "wearability". In 1927 he returned to Italy and settled in Florence. From Eva Peron, Marilyn Monroig liked custom-made craft shoes. There was a time when 700 shoemakers were employed at once who produced 350 pairs of shoes a day.
