The church has great architectural simplicity inside and outside, free of baroque ornaments. It was built around 1729 by Angelo and Vito Oronzo Gentil Sarapo, hence the noble coat of arms of the Sarapo family in the center of the door. It was an oratory for a community of nuns who lived nearby (following the Capuchin rule) that bore the name of the Virgen de los Dolores. It was not until the second half of the 19th century, when a particular devotion to San José was installed (a lay community was appointed to take office). The chapel is attached to the adjacent Oblate monastery, founded in 1750 that remained active until 1845, the year the last nun died and the monastery was closed. The monastery facilities, adjacent to the church, were eventually used as private houses. Inside there are three paintings from the 1700s, one of which dates from 1744, signed by Vincenzo Fato.
