The first and ancient parish church had been erected in the castle, "to head the square"; it is not known, however, from who was founded, nor in what time, but already in a parchment of the year 1129 we read that the Bishop of Ravenna yielded in ephiteusi some lands "in Florentia"; in 1138, the castle is among the properties of the abbey of S. Apollinare in Classe and since 1197 mention is made of the church of S. Andrea di Focara. L'Olivieri reports documents ranging from 1250 to 1273 in which we talk about the contrasts between the castles of Monte Accio and the archbishops of Ravenna; Furthermore, in Book III of the Statutes of Pesaro, Heading 152, we read: "Territory of Focara and its port, which included Fiorenzuola, Gabicce, Casteldimezzo and Granarola, dependent on the Archbishops of Ravenna, governed by a Visconte (then Guido della Tomba ) that in 1271 allowed the construction of the castle of Cattolica ". Fiorenzuola is also mentioned in a document from the Vatican Archive dating back to 1283, in the Rationes Decimarum of 1290-92, in the apostolic visit of 1574 and in all the pastoral visits of our bishops to our days, and is well remembered for the goodness of the spring waters which, as recorded in the books of the seventeenth century, grow and decrease according to the flow and outflow of the sea. After collapsing the ancient parish church, located inside the castle, with the earthquake of 15 August 1916, a new one was erected on a hill not far from the town, started with the laying of the first stone in 1920, completed and inaugurated June 20, 1925.
