Cappella Ricci

Chapel of the country estate of the family of Giuseppe Ricci (Modena 1976 - there 1832), Duke Francesco IV's Noble Guard of Honor, unjustly accused of treason and sentenced to death by firing squad, in the stormy period that followed the uprisings of 1831. Giuseppe Ricci fell victim to a conspiracy hatched by his archenemy Count Gerolamo Riccini, Minister of Duke Francesco IV, who, taking advantage of the climate of tension and suspicion caused by the continuous attacks and insurrectional revolts that bloodied the Duchy in that period, would have induced two people to make a false complaint, initiating a sham trial. The effigy of Giuseppe Ricci is present on the monument to Ciro Menotti in piazza Roma, Modena.
