A small Church with humble garments, bearer of an infinite message of Love and Will ... one of the treasures of the soul💖 The Abbey of San Paolo delle Abbadesse gave refuge to Santa Chiara of Assisi protecting her from family members who did not want her to become part of the order. Legend has it that Chiara, opposing her parents who wanted to bring her home, clung to the altar and it was not possible to detach her. It is as if a "union" had been created between Clare and the Altar that would not allow anyone to remove her. The Franciscan sources in this regard narrate "They have recourse to everything: to impetuous violence, to poisoned plots, to flattering promises, in order to persuade her to withdraw from that condition of humiliated baseness, which neither suits the nobility of the family, nor to precedents in the district. But she, clinging tightly to the altar cloths, discovers her head shaved, stating that in no way will she allow herself to be torn from the service of Christ. As the hostile struggle of her parents grows, her courage grows, and new strength infuses her love stimulated by offenses. Hindered in this way for several days in the way of the Lord and suffering the opposition of her relatives to her purpose of holiness, her soul did not falter, she did not weaken her fervor: on the contrary, among the injurious words, she tempered her spirit for hope, until the relatives, defeated, give up and calm down ”.
