An unmissable opportunity to see how an oil mill works up close Family-run, a tradition that is handed down and that transmits ancient values. Background Our journey began with grandfather Tito Ercolanetti (1902 - 1986) He was born and lives in Bettona, a small town in the hills of Umbria, the "Green Heart of Italy", just 12 km from Assisi, the city of San Francesco. Tito marries Elvira and his second son Renato is born, who arrived about ten years after his sister Lina, in 1936. Tito teaches the young Renato the tricks of the trade, passing on not only his passion but also the knowledge and experience gained over the years. Renato married Maria, and in 1967 Roberto, their only son, was born. Thanks to Roberto, his parents, his wife Laura and their 4 children Luca, Lisa, Andrea and Francesco, finally all the sacrifices of grandfather Tito have blossomed with the birth of the Frantoio Ercolanetti. It is to this activity that Roberto dedicates himself together with the collaboration of his eldest son Luca (1994), producing every year the delicious and precious extra virgin olive oil and creating with his own hands a beautiful and characteristic farmhouse surrounded by the green silver foliage of the olive trees, " La Macina di Bettona ”. With the continuous study, a lot of practice and latest generation machinery that allow to produce a high quality oil, the Ercolanetti family, with its approximately 12 thousand olive trees, produces 25,000 to 30,000 liters of oil every year. Ercolanetti oil, in addition to being a DOP extra virgin olive oil, has benefited from the Monocultivar Moraiolo designation since 2018; the olive grove in fact belongs to the Colli Martani belt, one of the 4 areas to which this denomination is recognized. Olive growing is therefore made up of 80% olive trees of the Moraiolo species, and the remaining 20% of varieties such as Frantoio, Leccino, Dolce Agogia, and minimally Raggio and Pendolino. This is a very important denomination for the company, since Moraiolo produces a high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil, with a bright green color, low acidity and high polyphenol content; it is these that determine its color, scent and aroma, as well as give the oil stability and nutritional health qualities. The polyphenols also perform an antibacterial, antiviral, and antioxidant action, thus preventing cardio-vascular and neurodegenerative diseases.

If I had to give some stars, it would surely be 5 all very precise and tidy (strange in an oil mill at full working capacity) starting from the time of the appointment to cleaning the whole department to the quality of the oil obtained congratulations to all of you. Too bad not having been able to make a bruschetta.
