In 1835, while cholera was raging in Genoa, the municipal authorities assigned it to Lazzaretto: hence, the closure, as well as the subsequent abandonment. The parish priest Edoardo Del Buono (1872 - 1952) thought to bring it back to the honor of the cult, with the collaboration of the citizens. We have news of this Church as early as the 16th century. According to tradition, it was built by the inhabitants of Cogoleto as thanks for having San Sebastiano saved the town from a serious pestilence. In 1835 while there was cholera in Genoa, the municipal authorities used it as a Lazzaretto, then it was closed and abandoned for some time. The parish priest Edoardo Del Bono with the collaboration of the citizens strongly wanted to bring it back to the honor of the cult. The previous building was demolished and the small church was built in its place, still visible today. The first stone was laid in 1912 and the consecration took place on 10 August 1915 in a subdued tone because it was in war but very much felt and participated by the Cogoletesi. Inside we can admire frescoes by Ettore Mazzini and a beautiful wooden statue of the Madonna. A jewel with a barrel vaulted ceiling that ends with a triumphal arch open in the presbytery is very small. Do not miss this gem, go and visit it .....
