I spent 3 weeks here with the 26CRS, Zweibrucken, West Germany, of the United States 🇺🇸 Air Force in 1981. We were performing a military exercise with the United States Navy, who had an aircraft carrier group deployed in the Mediterranean Sea. The accommodations were Spartan, at best, however the experience was delightfully memorable for me. A local family invited me and one of my fellow airmen to their home for dinner. Their hospitality was incredible. My group flew RF-4C Phantom II reconnaissance jets and a group from Lakenheath, England, flew FB-111 fighter/bomber jets. Our job was to locate and "destroy" the Navy ships, which we were successful in doing every day of the exercise.

I spend my holidays by the sea in Campomarino di Maruggio .... and during the whole period I hear an unbearable background noise for those who want to feel comfortable on vacation ... this noise is produced by the continuous aerial exercises .... I would say that with a lot of you are likely to ruin the peace of many tourists and people who, moreover, would like that the citizens' money were not spent on useless military activities !! We want to finish it thanks !!!

I served as a government lecturer in 1985/86, I have an immense memory, it will be difficult to forget, for me the best Highly Operative Military Airport. Long live the 36 * Hunting of Gioia del Colle (BA).
