Short History. DATES: Built in the 10th century; Rebuilt in 1426; Consecrated in 1888. The toponym of this parish is connected to the holder S. Nicolò, once called "S. Nicolò della Scarsella". It was spread since the sec. X a vast patrimony of the abbey of S. Bartolo of Ferrara, called for this also S. Nicolò but a villa of San Nicolò is attested from 1252. In this area rose the church of S. Nicolò, with adjoining hospice for pilgrims . The parish, already existing in the sec. XIV, received in 1434 and in 1436 the pastoral visits of the Ferrarese bishop Giovanni Tavelli from Tossignano; in the sec. XVII the parish was part of the plebania of Gaibana. In place of the ancient crumbling church, it was necessary to build a new one, which from 1788 is the current one, apparently by the Ferrarese architect Antonio Foschini. In it are kept interesting relics, such as the beautiful high altar of the sixteenth century, coming from the church of the Consolation of Ferrara, placed here in 1858 by the munificence of the card. Luigi Giordani. In the Parish there is the "Confraternity of the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows". The purpose of the "Confraternity" is to promote, in particular, the cult of the Blessed Virgin. Every year, on Marian occasions, twelve s. Masses for all registered and living members.

DESCRIPTION AT YOUR PLACE Erected in the 10th century. Rebuilt in 1426. Consecrated in 1888. HISTORY The toponym of this parish is connected to the owner S. Nicolò, once called "S. Nicolò della Scarsella". It was spread since the century. X a vast patrimony of the abbey of S. Bartolo of Ferrara, also called S. Nicolò for this reason, but a villa of San Nicolò is attested since 1252. In this area stood the church of S. Nicolò, with an adjoining hospice for pilgrims . The parish, already existing in the century. XIV, received in 1434 and 1436 the pastoral visits of the bishop of Ferrara Giovanni Tavelli da Tossignano; in the sec. XVII the parish was part of the Gaibana plebania. In place of the old church that had fallen due to age, it was necessary to build a new one, which has been the present one since 1788, apparently by the Ferrara architect Antonio Foschini. It contains interesting relics, such as the beautiful high altar of the sixteenth century, coming from the church of the Consolazione in Ferrara, placed here in 1858 by the munificence of card.
