Chiesa di San Matteo Apostolo

Church located in the center of the village of Cervarezza Terme, in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Surrounded by greenery, it is medium in size with a single nave. The Altar area is raised and very bright, while the part dedicated to the public, much less illuminated. It has a functioning organ and a very large sacristy. Particularly the bell tower, with its pointed chapel is very characteristic. It is the church where marriages are celebrated and the community participates in Sunday celebrations. Behind the church, a small oratory and in front of the churchyard, a small public car park where you can leave your car. Nearby there is also a fountain, with water that comes from the Source of St. Lucia, or that of the renowned water ventasso. A mountain place to visit, even on Sundays, for the usual Christian ritual celebrations

The Epoch of construction of the church dedicated to St. Matthew the Apostle is prior to 1153. In 1543 the church was in ruin, renovated, it was still in very bad condition at the end of the nineteenth century when it was rebuilt from its foundations. The church has a single room with side chapels and ends with a presbytery with a semicircular apse. On the simple façade the date "1893" can be read while on the left side there is the one of the "1778" while a rose window overlooks the entrance portal. Inside a series of pilasters with Corinthian capitals marks the hall and the side chapels. The nave in the Doric order is covered by a barrel vault and a semicircular apse. The church is in stone masonry.
