absolutely to visit-The village of Montebonello, medieval village and Matildico, is located less than 9 km from the capital and in a north-west direction. It is a village of considerable artistic and architectural interest. The late Romanesque church of Montebonello is one of the most precious examples of Romanesque minor art. Inside the church, dating back to the XIII century and modified in the course of the following ones, a cycle of frescoes dating back to the XV century was discovered and recovered. Covered with lime in the seventeenth century, it lost its memory until the fortuitous rediscovery of 1979. From Montebonello, from the village Matildico located at 752 m s.l.m., you can admire the peaks of the Apennines that surround it in the distance. A village with a characteristic profile of the Middle Ages with a nineteenth-century bell tower and an ancient fourteenth-century tower, the remains of a medieval castle. In the square there are recently renovated buildings and, under the wooden portico, there are still a column and two Byzantine capitals, evidence of an ancient presence of prestigious buildings. In the rural village located on the saddle that separates the town from the forest to the north, in front of the civic number 74, it is possible to admire a metatum (drying room for chestnuts) dated 1839 and perfectly preserved. I hope to publish opening hours soon.
