Splendid testimony of a glorious past. Enchanting church immersed in nature. Invaluable evidence of an important past ranging from Romanesque to the nineteenth century. The recently rediscovered late fifteenth-century frescoes are splendid. The pastor of this church has indeed been available to illustrate the history of this church.
Erio Biolchini (02/01/2019)
The Church dedicated to San Giorgio Martire di Vesale derives its origins from an ancient late Romanesque church, dating back to around 1250, which flanked the local defensive castle. The Romanesque apse remains of the ancient church, clearly visible from the outside and inside it is almost niche at the main altar and at the back of the wooden choir. At the beginning of the seventeenth century, the defensive needs, linked in particular to the protection of the communication route Florence, Pistoia, Modena, were demolished, a large part of the ancient Romanic church was demolished and the entire remaining part of the castrum was used to build the which is the current church. The work of construction of the building was completed in 1610. The part related to the completion of the side chapels, with the construction of the altars and the blades, will be completed during the 1600s. The fact that the altar chapel dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi is designed and maintained by the Biolchini family who will keep the exclusive property of the altar for a long time, as can be seen from the plaque on the side of the altar of San Francesco but above all from the documentation kept in the diocesan archive of Modena.

Beautiful environment, I think of the seventeenth century, with altars really beautiful paintings, I always think of the seventeenth century. Note the wooden gildings of the high altar that seem to have been made yesterday. The whole environment is very well cared for as we see in very few churches and the parish priest is a very kind person who invites you to visit even the inner parts, where we discovered two 15th century frescoes of which portions have remained, but which are preserved in a wonderful way!
