Antonio DI MAIO (11/19/2020)
Hospitality, kindness and courtesy. Although at the first time he seems to have always bought in this cute shop full of typical goodness of the place. I bought the wild peas (la Roveja), never eaten, very good and very tasty. Roveja, also called field pea or robiglio, is a variety of pea. This legume was imported into Europe from the Middle East, known since the Neolithic, but lately practically disappeared from our productions, in the Monteleone area it has always been cultivated. Similar to pea but with a pod that, at first green in color, takes on dark purple tones with maturation, the fresh legume is green, with shades of gray, and is harvested between the end of July and the beginning of August. On the other hand, it is brown in color when dried and in this case it is available all year round. In ancient times the roveja was cultivated throughout the Umbrian-Marche Apennine ridge, from the Colfiorito plateau to the Gran Sasso passing through Cascia and Castelluccio , but it was above all on the high peaks of the Sibillini Mountains that there were endless fields. The roveja is in fact resistant to low temperatures, it is grown in spring-summer and does not need much water. Other very good products that I found: a sheep's cheese with holes also never eaten and I found it very good delicate taste despite maintaining its character of strong flavors and finally the spelled of Monteleone, Il Farro di Monteleone di Spoleto DOP is refers to the grain obtained from the local ecotype of the Triticum dicoccum species, produced in the Integrale, Semiplato, Spezzato and Semolina di Farro types. Farro di Monteleone di Spoleto PDO Integrale comes in elongated and curved grains of light amber brown color, without the external coating, consistent and dry on the palate. Semperlato Farro differs for a slight scratch on the surface of the kernels, which remains whole and for a lighter color; on the palate it is softer. Spelled Spelled has a light amber brown color and an appearance characterized by glassy scales. Finally, the spelled semolina has a very light brown color, on the palate it is mellow
