Chiesa di San Lorenzo

Small country parish situated between the cultivated fields of the Terni hills in the Carone-Ponte San Lorenzo area. The building is of modest proportions, extremely simple and stripped of ornaments, has a gabled façade surmounted by a delightful bell tower, the plasters are faded and severely compromised by large gaps, however recent restoration works are noted: the roof pitched has been rebuilt and the infesting vegetation that over the years had suffocated the body has been eliminated. The only decorative hint is a small, fine rectangular marble insert above the door. Massive wedge buttresses support the building at the sides at the four corners. The church is closed, there are no functions held and it is not open to the public. This small church, certainly does not shine for its architectural peculiarities but appears perfectly integrated with the suggestive agricultural landscape that surrounds it, immersed in the silence of the wide cultivated expanses, between the vast territory that extends upstream of the Recentino canal up to the hills of Poscargano . A non-profit, purely cultural review; carried out, that is to say, with the sole purpose of describing the architectural beauty of the building and the landscape context where it arises and to contribute, in general, to the knowledge of the many small and wonderful semi-unknown realities scattered throughout Italy.
