The church, which is of Orthodox worship, stands in Piazza Costanzi at the intersection of via Bovio and via Cavour and has fifteenth-century origins, although it may have been built on a pre-existing sacred building as it often happened in past centuries. Its construction dates back to the fifteenth century but then, due to various events, it was rebuilt a couple of times both in the eighteenth century (based on a design by the Rimini architect Buonamici), and after the war by the architect Pacini. The church has an unusual octagonal plan and shows a sort of mixture of neoclassical and "gothic" styles that give it a slightly "naive" appearance.

It is one of the most beautiful churches in Fano. Externally it has a facade that resembles the Renaissance style also present in the well-known Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. In addition, this facade stands out from all the others in this city. It has a central octagonal plan; surmounted by a dome. The whole interior of the church is highly decorated. A visit to this jewel is recommended and mandatory.

Today's Christian Orthodox Church, very small, on an octagonal base. The story says that it was built in the middle of the thirteenth century. The early church was larger than the present, but in 1740 the runoff caused by rainfall caused the ruin of the church which was then rebuilt making a modest-sized structure that well he performed the role of small scenic backdrop of the square. In 2011 the bishop of the Diocese gave the Orthodox Christian community liturgical use of the Church of Saint Anthony.
