The church of San Carlo in Todi is in Romanesque style: the first information about the monument dates back to 1112, when it is named under the title of St. Hilary in a register of the monks of Farfa, to which it belonged and with that name is probably it was the first cathedral of Todi. The exterior of the building has a simple Lombard-style façade whose linearity is made more striking by a series of five ornamental serrations arranged horizontally across the entire front: the same motif is also present in the apse of the church of Santa Maria in Camuccia. Of particular elegance is the bell gable, formed by two orders. At the center of the façade a window with eight columns converging and resting on the truncated points of a central star draws a perfect wheel and in its simplicity it is among the oldest examples of rosettes proper, ascribable to the 12th century. Below the rose window, in the lunette above the door, few traces remain of a fresco with the face of San Carlo. The interior is characterized by its extreme and striking linearity with its unique nave. To the right of the entrance is an elegant 14th century holy water font and on the left wall a fresco attributed to Spain depicts the Madonna della Misericordia with two angels crowning it. In the church there is also an oil painting by Bartolomeo Barbiani, signed and dated 1640, depicting Saint Hilary between two angels, and another with Saint Charles.
