We were very lucky to attend a Catholic mass conducted in beautiful Italian language. It was definitely one of the special moments and highlights during in our stop in Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre.

Nice little church, worth poking your head in as you walk past

A small church a few meters from the Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista, dating back to the 16th century, it is worth visiting for the triptych on the altar with the Madonna and child of the same date as the church and a beautiful restored wooden statue from the 14th century. The oratory is in via colombo, the main road that goes up from the sea to the end of the town.

Quiet crop to pray

Built in the sixteenth century, the sacred building houses two remarkable works: a triptych placed on the altar and depicting the Madonna and Child, with S. Giovanni and S. Francesco on the sides, dating from the sixteenth century. wooden statue, recently restored, representing the Virgin and Child. The statue, called Madonna delle Catene, was dated to the early fourteenth century. The provenance is not known. The chains evoke the tragic periods of incursions of Muslim pirates, which had to release the prisoners held on the coast, for the payment of a ransom.
