Basilica di San Pietro

VERY BEAUTIFUL BASILICA AND PROBABLY THE BEST IN REGGIO-EMILIA. YOU SHOULD VISIT.

Superb, full of works of art. The dome was designed by Paolo Massoni from Reggio and built between 1625 and 1629. The church was enriched in 1765 by a bell tower and completed in 1782 by the facade made by Pietro Armani. The current stepped churchyard was built in 1816 and was remodeled between 1926/30. The interior is in the shape of a Latin cross with a single nave. It preserves precious carved choirs from the Baroque period, in marble and wood from different periods, but mainly from the 1600s. The paintings are valuable: in the left aisle, inside the chapel of S.Scolastica is the SS. Trinità by Alessandro Tiarini, also author of the Martyrdom of St. Barbara (1625) in the third chapel; in the second chapel, there is the beautiful San Michele Arcangelo by Pietro Desani (1627) and in the first the Martyrdom of SS. Placido and Bibbiana by Paolo Emilio Besenzi (1648); in the right transept San Pietro and San Gioconda by Mastelletta (1639); in the small dome (or lantern), the Eternal in glory and Angels by Camillo Gavassetti (c. 1630)

The most beautiful basilica of Reggio Emilia. Imposing in its interior, recently restored. Not visiting it is a great loss for its beauty

It is the largest of the four papal basilicas of Rome. It is located near the Apostolic Palace and is the seat of the main manifestations of Catholic worship. It is impossible to remain indifferent to the number of people who crowd it every day as well as to the majesty of the square in front. If you visit Rome you can't miss this place.
