Church of Saint Nicolò and Saint Agatha

Beautiful church on top of a small hill easily reachable on foot.

I came to visit the Abbey of Zola following the itinerary of the works of Alessandro Guardassoni in the province of Bologna. The church, inaugurated in 1781, stands on a small hill. In the façade you can see the large statues of San Nicolò and Sant'Agata by Alessandro Barbieri. Giuseppe Jamorini's bell tower is from 1780. Inside there are decorations in stucco and sculptures by Giuseppe Callegari, in the vault of the main chapel we see the frescoes depicting the "Glory of Saints Nicolò and Agata" and in the apse "the Assumption of Mary", works commissioned in 1842 to the painters Luigi Samoggia and Alessandro Guardassoni. Instead the altarpiece with "San Nicolò" is by Alessandro Maria Trocchi.
