Church of Saint Mary of Misericords

That of Santa Maria della Misericordia represents the mother church of the village of Oliveto Citra. Its construction dates back to the last years of the '700 and in fact, most likely, the structure was completed in 1783. The church has a Latin cross plan, consisting of three naves that intersect with another cross aisle of different length. The four Evangelists are depicted on the basis of the beautiful dome of the church. Very particular is the presence of ten marble altars built between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

The church is very well maintained and situated in a panoramic position. The parish priest, Don Luigi, the soul of authentic spirituality, involving everyone with humor, acceptance, depth of preaching and concrete presence in people's lives.

The church, valuable from an artistic point of view, preserves the mortal remains of St. Macarius, a 10th century Basilian monk, who here built the hermitage where he spent the last years of his life.
