The cathedral of Montalbano Elicona or cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and San Nicolò Vescovo, full name of the minor basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and San Nicolò Vescovo, stands in Piazza Duomo and the main façade overlooks Piazza Duomo. It is a mother church or matrix, the largest of the churches in Montalbano Elicona. Belonging to the archdiocese of Messina-Lipari-Santa Lucia del Mela, vicarage of Montalbano Elicona under the patronage of the Sacred Heart, archpriest of Montalbano Elicona, parish of Santa Maria Assunta and San Nicolò Vescovo.
