Cathedral of Saint Nicholas of Bari

In the heart of Nicosia you can see the imposing and beautiful bell tower and facing the square the beautiful portico of the Cathedral of San Nicola. Inside, the beautiful wooden crucifix stands out. The square on the side is full of historic buildings, among which the Municipality stands out with its beautiful atrium, the huge wrought iron chandelier, the council chamber and the balconies. It was nice to visit the town on the occasion of the Nocattolo Festival, a typical dessert made with puff pastry and a cream of almonds and cinnamon on top. The nicest surprise was the kindness of the locals and the opportunity to taste local products in the various stands with the purchase of vaucers with € 5 which includes appetizers: 4 types of local cold cuts, 4 types of cheeses all delicious; then a glass of very good semi-sweet wine / beer; tastings of chilli pate and jams; bucatini al sugo with exquisite meat and mushrooms and water and finally the Nocattolo in the square. And at the same time being able to visit the historic center with the church of San Calogero with its wooden coffered ceiling, the Municipality and see the preparations for the procession of Charles V with all the characters in period dress. In short, a beautiful and tasty day in a country where you feel at home.

The Cathedral of Nicosia, dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Bari, represents, together with its bell tower, the most famous work of the city of Nicosia: from the beginning it had the prerogative of being the Mother Church of the city and in 1388 it was officially recognized Parish from the Archbishop of Messina, to whose Archdiocese Nicosia belonged.
