Vado a vivere in Sardegna (08/28/2020)
A beautiful place to spend a cool summer Sunday. The fair park is enchanting with its centuries-old trees. And further up are the seven fountains, from which the Siete Fuentes name takes its name. The water is absolutely drinkable, fresh and light. We talked about this place on our YouTube channel: I GO TO LIVE IN SARDINIA.

There is not much to see in the surrounding area but for a roast or packed lunch it's fine!

The town developed around the church of the same name and the ancient hospital. At that time the territory belonged to the Giudicato of Torres who between 1127 and 1182 was under the guidance of Gonario II, a participant in the second crusade. With the extinction of the Giudicato di Torres dynasty with the death of Giudicessa Adelaide, its territories became part of the Giudicato of Arborea and with them the villa of San Leonardo. From the thirteenth century it belonged to the Hospitaller Order of St. John in Jerusalem. The foundation of San Leonardo, dating back to the 12th century, predates that of Santu Lussurgiu. When a stable settlement was established around the church of the Noblac saint, on the site where the church of Santa Croce stands today there was only one sanctuary with the relics of San Lussorio. Of the acts of the Liber Censuum of the thirteenth century, attest the existence of another village, Lucentina, which stood a few kilometers from the sanctuary of San Lussorio in the direction of the current Abbasanta in the area that today takes the name of Lughentinas. In the same period, a first permanent settlement had formed around the sanctuary. For reasons attributable to the wars and epidemics of the 1300s the medieval settlements of San Leonardo and Lucentina lost their importance and inhabitants, while that of Santu Lussurgiu grew. The first of depopulation while of the second there is no trace. The first documents reporting the depopulation of San Leonardo date back to the end of the 1500s. According to a 2007 study the current name of the church and therefore of the hamlet could be due to an original settlement of monks of the Cistercian order and to their use of calling their settlements with the name of Septem-Fontes. The name derives from the symbolic meaning assumed by the number seven in connection with the water sources. Examples of this custom of the Order are found throughout Europe such as the Abbey of Sept-Fons in France at Dompierre-sur-Besbre.
