The Mulino dell’Offellera was a wheat mill, mainly maize and rye. Its three wheels were moved by the waters of the Gallerana canal, built in 1476, by authorization of Gian Galeazzo Sforza, by Fazio Gallerani, who owned properties in Carugate and was the father of Cecilia, the famous "Lady with an Ermine" portrayed by Leonardo. The canal in the stretch from Agrate to Carugate is still in existence, while the mill abandoned in the late 1950s has been dismantled. The museum enhances the traces left: the mill room with some millstones, a template engraved in the wall with the shape of the typical wheel, the three holes in the masonry for the trees of the three wheels, as well as the barn space on the first floor characterized by rustic half-roofs in wood. Today is a beautiful place to organize events.
