San Giuliano

Small church located near the Este Castle, unfit for use because of the 2012 earthquake

Beautiful interior visited in November for the Chartreuse Photography Expo. I had never entered. Beautiful place that deserves reopening. Superb just!

It is not known whether out of superstition or ignorance, but the church does not enjoy a good reputation. It is nicknamed "the church of the beaks"; the slander seems to be caused by an imaginative popular interpretation of the bas-relief, placed on the facade of the church, in which San Giuliano (the Hospitaller) is depicted, with his sword in his hand, about to kill his parents in his wedding bed.

Church not open due to earthquake. The works inside have almost all been transferred elsewhere. Outside you can admire the 14th century lunette that represents San Giuliano, which unintentionally kills the parents.

I write about the church but only because you can't write about the square next to where the cicadas invite you to eat all the good things brought to the so-called Take away ..... I recommend the square next to the tenement houses, the castle and the church .....
