Pieve dei Santi Leonardo e Cristoforo a Monticchiello

Parish church, renovated in the Gothic style in the fourteenth century, with an imposing facade and a beautiful portal. The interior has a spacious nave with terracotta flooring and, on the walls, frescoes from the fourteenth century, damaged and partially restored, by an anonymous Sienese depicting the life of St. Catherine of Alexandria.

Monticchiello is a charming Borgo. Cared for with love and dedication by its inhabitants, in every detail. It's all a garden. The small church is richly frescoed and contains a wonderful painting of the Madonna and child by Pietro Lorenzetti. I remember it with emotion, as one of the most beautiful Italian villages.
