Went to Jays Guesthouse and had an amazing time and experience. My birthday holiday could not have gone any better. Jays family and friends were very kind. I climbed to the peak, visited the coffee fields and so much more. The hike from here is closer to the peak but still a few hours hike. Jay is easy to talk to so do don’t hesitate to contact him about accommodations or other details. I highly recommend a visit to Jays Guest house in the Blue Mountains. I will return!

The owner Jay is such a nice guy. The original place is a perfect mountain spot on the St Thomas side of the Blue Mountains. He is almost complete with a new spot a little farther up the hills. This will be classy single bedrooms with bathroom. A view of the peak between Hagley Gap and a nice retreat. Food was great. Jay can cook and so can his family (who are the staff). He can also arrange the Peak trail hike. Original spot has separate bathrooms for the bedrooms. Wifi is there but it is rustic. Two styles on the same road. Do not drive there in a car! Cannot reach it.

My friends and I enjoyed a great stay at Jay's place. We enjoyed the view on the Blue Mountain Peak while having a great service. We loved the food and the great atmosphere. Climbing the Blue Mountain Peak for the sunrise was a great adventure!

Beware that you don't have to pay the excessive amount they ask for transportation. You can easily get there with a normal shared taxi with locals even if they want you to believe the opposite. Other than that the place is nice.

I wish I could give Jay’s Guest House 100 stars! Staying at Jay’s is the real experience. The location is absolutely stunning - you can see the sunrise from the Blue Mountain peak or from the guest house roof while communing with coffee beans - and you should experience both! Jay was very responsive by email and text to help me organize my booking. Let them provide your transportation- it is an amazing ride up the mountain but my driver Siggy was a real professional and you’ll be in great hands. I didn’t have enough time to do all the experiences they offer but the Blue Mountain peak hike is worth the 2am wake up to catch the sunrise (but I think it would also be great to do at more human-friendly hours). Definitely check out the family coffee farm and support their efforts in this respectable and delicious business! You’ll see more than coffee on your tour including more stunning mountain views. Learn all you can from your guide and everyone you meet; ask questions and enjoy the learning experience! The hospitality at Jay’s was a million times better than you’d find at any commercial hotel. From the warm welcomes to the the amazing food and the wonderful conversations, I really didn’t want to leave! They do a wonderful job preparing meals for carnivores and vegetarians (like me). Possibly the best part about staying here is that you immediately feel at home - Jay and his family and friends are among the most wonderful people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. It was an unexpected treat to get to know the family but I’m so glad for it. And, the children were so much fun! It was very special getting to know what life in the Blue Mountains is like through their eyes. Some tips: bring good hiking shoes! You will enjoy your activities far more with sturdy feet. There are some steep parts on the mountain and coffee farm but your guides will always help you feel safe. Also have sunscreen - shade is easy to find but the sun definitely shines down! Bring layers if you plan to do the sunrise hike because the top of the mountain is windy and chilly although you are sheltered from the wind on most of the hike. If you are looking for a luxury resort holiday then you should change your expectations and give this adventure a try. The amenities are basic but sufficient (you can sit on the roof with coffee beans, watching the clouds surge over the mountains, drinking a Red Stripe, and check your Facebook with the great WiFi connection so what more do you really need?!?). But, watch this space because they are nearly finished building some new rooms just a few minutes up the road - Jay’s mother gave me a sneak peek tour and the place is STUNNING! It will offer a more modern feel if the current guest house isn’t your style, but the hospitality (and the views) will be equally wonderful. I hope you go - I’m so glad I did and can’t wait to go back! Much respect everyday to Jay and his family and friends.
