It's just beautiful and a cozy spot to chill out
Mount Oliphant is a small farming community with breathtaking views overlooking Clarendon all the way to town. There are hard working families living here and the people are friendly. The community was promised a variety of upgrades by JAMALCO, 13 years ago when they started operation, yet this major mining company has not fulfilled it's promises. These promises were also outlined in the proposal plan to the government of Jamaica yet not one of the outlined programs have been fulfilled. This is a violation on the part of Jamalco, a violation that also carries a heavy weight, should a legal lawsuit arise, such a violation can carry a 500 Million US dollars price tag, as such negligence for Social Responsibility to a community in which Jamalco operates, is clearly an issue the world must now look at. No longer should the community of Mount Oliphant suffer because broken promises. JAMALCO has a responsibility to the people of Mount Oliphant and surrounding communities. They must be honest to their larger partner in the Jamaican Government, do what they have promised in order to continue operation in Mount Oliphant. Here is a small list of where they can start.
1. Use their resources at the plant to provide running water for the community of Mount Oliphant they operate in, not just for the plant.
2. Pay each household 13 years worth of dust and noise monies
3. Initiate promised programs to uplift the community
4. Start the development of a community center at a location accepted by the community
5. Complete the road through the community and the North Street location road that connects with Harmon's to open up South Manchester
6. The company must give the community relationship management position to any qualified individual who resides in Mount Oliphant, holding a University degree and years of work experience.
7. The company must give more jobs to the people residing in Mount Oliphant
8. The current CRM must hold a monthly meeting in Mount Oliphant and ensure each and every household is invited.
JAMALCO it is time to do what is right under God. Jamaica and it's people, the community of Mount Oliphant, Manning's Field and surrounding areas, deserve proper running water as one of their basic human rights. Any incorporated company or conglomerate operating in an area must ensure their social responsibility policies are intact. Jamalco has failed the people of this community and violated their rights and neglected their responsibilities as an incorporated entity operating in Jamaica. Under God the Community of Mount Oliphant deserves better. Attention: Jamalco upper management and all Jamalco executives. FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION
