Wedding Day Disaster Renova Spa - Riu Ocho Rios I thought I would share my experience of the bridal hair and make up services to enlighten future brides and get the salon to review their services on offer to black women requiring services for afro hair. After all this salon is in Jamaica and has a diverse customer base which includes black women On 28th May 2018 I visited the salon to enquire about bridal hair and make up. I explained what I wanted and was assured that they could provide the service required so I went ahead and booked my wedding day appointment. I arrived promptly for my appointment and the make up artist started with lash extensions This took a bit longer than expected but hey I remained optimistic. The stylist then proceeded to do my hair. I was completely flabbergasted by the fact that the salon had no hair products suitable for my hair. The only shampoo available was tresemme, which would have been ok if they had other products to style my hair as i have a short cut that requires wrap setting with foam or a leave in conditioner. Unfortunately the but salon had neither. Instead I was offered a setting lotion used for roller setting to wrap my hair. The salon had no hair nets available to cover my hair whilst under the dryer so used a fabric scarf instead (can you believe it) I realised at this point that I was either going to be late for my wedding or miss it altogether (as the hotel had another wedding booked for 5pm) so I asked the stylist to finish my hair with a blowdryer as it was 3.20pm by this point leaving me with only 40 mins for me to finish my hair, make up and get dressed. Unfortunately it gets worse, the stylist starts to curl my hair and I realise that she doesn't have the right size straighteners for my hair 😫😫😫😫😫... this is when my emotions got the better of me and I broke down in tears. Luckily I had my GHD mini straighteners so I asked my fiance to bring them over to the salon. However, they couldn't use them (even with an adaptor) as their sockets differed to the ones in the hotel room 😱😱😱 at this stage I told her to do what she could and I would finish my hair myself so she could get my make up done. My make up was then rushed and I didn't get the full bridal make up package that I paid for. I left the salon at 4.15pm and had to rush to get myself dressed and sort out my hair. Luckily our wedding went ahead albeit late. I returned to the salon after the wedding to make a complaint, the supervisor apologised and agreed to a full refund. However, this encounter ruined everything for me so was simply not enough as I was concious of my hair and makeup throughout the ceremony and when talking photographs. We decided to move to Riu Palace in Montego Bay for the remainder of our stay after our expetience and I must say that was fantastic.
