For those with a deep interest in pottery, must visit. Probably not for others

If you are interested in pottery at all this is a pilgrimage you have to make. Shoji Hamada was a world renowned potter who influenced the Mingei folk art movement and later was declared a national treasure. Here you can see the studio, and kick wheel Hamada used as well as the actual kiln. While here we met one of the care takers who's father worked along-side Hamada who remembers them actually firing up the kiln! The entire town of Mashiko is a delight and not to missed.

i really loved this japanese ceramic type of tea cup, ceramic earthy-ness. shogo hamada was probably most associated w. makibg it well know in tge west. uk..bernard leach, of an u.k. arts crafts mvmnt is a contempirary of hamada..check out the wonderful home/museum
