Chido Museum

Very well organised place with super interesting buildings preserved from the Meiji era and an excellent collection of everyday life of people in Yamagata/Shonai area from Meiji until early Showa era.

Great museum with H. I. S Alive King of Shonai, Tsuruoka - shi Yamagata prefecture

A fairly interesting museum of local culture, architecture, and the like. I thought the entry fee of 700 yen was a bit rich given the source of most exhibits (donations), the size of the museum (not enormous) and the subject matter overall, but reasonable people can differ on this point, I expect...

Nice history

2020.10.7 (Wednesday) ☁ Preserved the buildings of the former Tsuruoka police station and the former county office. The Western-style architecture of the Meiji era was interesting because of that, and I took a leisurely tour. The great thing about Tsuruoka is that it also preserves the Edo period clan school Chidokan. We recommend visiting both the Chido Museum and the Chidokan. If anything, I recommend the Clan School Chidokan. The museum is like a local museum.
