It used to be called "Yaten Dori" because street stalls (night stalls) lined up over 500 meters on both sides and continued to be lively until late at night. Is the remnant of the "night store". It is said that a fair will be held on Jizo-san's day on the 24th of every month.
Get off JR Nippori Station, go up Gotenzaka, pass the famous Yanaka Ginza at sunset, and hit the strange name of "Yomise Street."
Yomichi-dori Shopping Street is located just off the street of Yanaka Ginza. (PC drawing)
The reason why this shopping street is divided into Bunkyo Ward and Taito Ward across the road is that when this road was established and it was Aizen River, the border of the ward was decided using this river as a border.
This street used to be where the Aizen River was flowing, and a shopping street was formed after culverts, and after the shop closed at night, the store opened and became called "Yomise Street".
The Aizen River is a branch of the Shakujii River near Oji, and there are many Aizen dye shops around here.
It is close to the University of Tokyo, and has appeared in Natsume Soseki's famous book "Sanshiro".
Because of the culvert of the Aizen River on the ward border, the Yomise-dori shopping street is a very rare shopping street divided into Taito ward and Bunkyo ward across the street.
When I visited, a float was just pulled over the ward at the festival (PC picture)
Children mikoshi
I thought that the mikoshi would be carried, but these children did not carry it, and it seemed that the spirits did not rise without shouting.
Apparently, the children's height was so large that they couldn't carry them together, so they lifted up and walked quietly.
Festival = summer vacation festival
A shopping street that retains the atmosphere of downtown.
It straddles Bunkyo Ward and Taito Ward.
There is a music hall at the entrance on the Nishi Nippori side,
What is the reason why the torii beside it is slanted?
answer
Before becoming a music hall, it was a gas station.
The torii was installed diagonally so as not to get in the way of entering and leaving the car.
It is a short walk from Nishi Nippori Station. It is also from Sendagi soon.
