A rare and special rose makes this a must see location for enthusiasts. Ayabe Gunze Square Rose Garden (that's a mouthful) isn't particularly big, but it is located in central Ayabe, not that far from the train station and some pretty excellent restaurants (see Ayabe Tsumugi, or Chatsubo Yoshida). Among the hundred variety of roses is Anne's Rose, named for Anne Frank and grown from seeds given to Ayabe City by Anne Franks father to promote peace worldwide. Ayabe is well-known as a city of peace, and this rose garden, with its circle within circle paths offers visitors great shots of roses to the backdrop of Japanese heritage buildings (the surrounding heritage buildings have been converted into museums that explain the history, present day, and future of silk culture and textiles in the area). There is also a gift shop selling local products and a cafe right next to the rose garden for people wanting to spend more time. The roses are usually in bloom in June and October. The rose garden is open to the public even when the museums/cafe/shop are closed.

A rose garden of just the right size ... I feel familiar with the handmade feeling. You can enjoy it slowly on weekdays. It's flat, so I think it's easy for wheelchairs and elderly people.

The rose in the first half of June is the best time to see it. I look forward to coming next year. It's nice to work with local people. It was good that both the entrance and the parking lot could be relaxed for free. The museum was more enjoyable than expected. The special soy sauce rusks is delicious! It was good to buy a little more as a souvenir...

Every time I visit, it is gradually maintained beautifully.
