Absolutely splendid museum in a beautiful converted traditional house. For fans of Netsuke or even Architecture this is a must see. Some of the best Netsuke you will ever see; spanning the ages to contemporary works.

This is a jewel of a museum! Difficult to find and away from the high touristy areas (another plus!). Netsuke are little ivory or wood amulets that used to be worn to hold medicine boxes or other items onto an obi sash. But apparently there is a modern artistic tradition that continues to create them from all kinds of materials. They are fantastic from both historical and modern periods! The old house that now has become the museum would itself worth a visit— a former samurai residence and later home of a wealthy person. Great!

1000 yen to enter, it's a niche like most things in Japan, a small detail mastered to perfection, and in this museum they have all of them. The best part about the museum is the nice traditional surroundings with its garden.

This small museum is a netsuke lovers heaven. More pieces than the museum in Haifa Israel but the museum in Haifa has older pieces.

This is a lovely museum in an old samurai home. Not only do you get a feeling for the grand homes of Kyoto's ( the dark kitchen area is very interesting) past, but also the netsuke are really gorgeous. This is a more modern collection, and I was with a friend who is a huge fan- I was not- but was charmed by the intricate amazing carving. A nice place to get away from Kyoto's crowds.
