It's been 2.3 years since I started living around Tama Zoo, but I've never seen a police officer at this police box. Due to my work, I pass by this police box early in the morning, late at night, and during the day, but there are no police officers at any time. According to a friend living nearby, this police box has an intercom inside, and when you press it, it will lead to the Takahata Fudo police box. This is a very meaningless police box. Even though there are warning signs such as "voyeurism" and strict warning signs around the road extending toward Meisei University, I think there are no people at the nearest police box.
We have a good reputation for the security of Japan. In particular, I think that the security rationality of the capital Tokyo is highly evaluated by foreigners as a competitive advantage (incentive) for inbound supply and demand.
Japanese police box system
The Metropolitan Police Department was established as a police force in the capital Tokyo
In 1874, a police box mechanism was defined. However, the facility was not budgeted from the beginning. At that time, the police box originated from the police box, which was designated as the place where the police officers took over (instead of returning to the police station) when the police box was changed.
I think that the police box system, which originated and developed in modern Japan, has been highly evaluated in other countries.
Today's police box system is widely recognized by the general public as a place of duty for police officers in certain areas with subdivided jurisdiction.
There are 826 police boxes in the capital Tokyo (prefectural budget), and as a general rule, police officers work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In order to protect the safety and security of the area, we carry out various activities such as incident response, route guidance, lost object response, patrol, and patrol contact.
However, the prefectural budget is finite. It is not "flexible" because it follows the precedent. There are also regional differences. During this deflationary economy, the total budget may peak or shrink.
In many cases, the consideration (price) for public expenses does not slide proportionally to the market, so in order to maintain this police box system continuously for a long period of time, it is necessary to use a more rational budget while considering cost effectiveness. It seems that it has been done.
Operation of model police box for foreign languages
Communication with foreigners is indispensable for the steady growth of inbound tourists and the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. Therefore, police boxes that can handle foreign languages have begun to operate within the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police Department.
As a trial, at least one person such as a police officer who is fluent in foreign languages is stationed at two locations, the Kabukicho police box at Shinjuku station and the police box in front of Shibuya station at Shibuya station.
When there are no personnel in the police box, it seems that they are planning to provide a solution that enables mutual (real-time) conversations with foreigners using a tablet terminal equipped with a translation function.
Does that mean that there are lots of absence properly patrolling the area?
Many absent
