The institute of Dr. Tomitaro Makino, a world-class botanist, was in this area from 1952 to 1945. The Botanical Research Institute was provided by Toshio Ikenaga, a well known Nanban art collector, for Tomitaro Makino. Tomitaro Makino, a pioneer of Japanese taxonomy, discovered many new species including “Yamatogusa”, and as a result of his self-study, he became a doctor of science at 66 years old, a cultural merit at 90 years old, and at 96 years old in 1952. Although it is called a small park in comparison with the size of Aishayama Park, it is a standard size for a city park. Although the altitude itself is not so high, the view from the terrace on the south side is good.
