The librarian was kind. It seems that it is a rare tumulus that excavated only 4 places in Japan, which is the upper circle below.
Is it a tumulus or Fujizuka from ancient times? This place was not surveyed until recently, though it was said to be. When I opened the lid, it was an extremely rare type of tumulus called the upper circle tumulus. While there are many tumuli that are still overgrown with trees, this site has been restored to its original appearance at the time of the tomb, which was entirely covered with river stone. Although it is surrounded by fences and cannot be approached, the whole image is clearly visible because the surroundings are roads.
The museum has a lot of materials on one floor. There is also a separate building that reproduces the interior of the tumulus. It is also important to note that the pattern on the front of the building and the stone pavement on the open space indicate the height and area of the tomb. You will be able to experience the tumulus more specifically.
It is a rare upper circle lower trap that has been found only a few cases nationwide. There are few excavated materials, but the old tomb itself is cobbled and restored beautifully. There is also a replica of the burial mound in the side of the exhibition room, where you can borrow a helmet and flashlight to enter. According to the curator, Marikofun-san and Urufuru Keisuke-san visited the burial mound event. Coincidentally, the nearby Mitaka observatory's old burial mound is also an upper and lower burial mound, so I'm worried about something related.
It was good that the staff's explanation was easy to understand. It is amazing that there is such a place in Tokyo. I was surprised at the combination of stone cuts!
In 2014, we visited the Kumano Shrine Tumulus Exhibition Hall. There are two exhibitions: an exhibition hall that displays the history and structure of the tumulus, and the environment at the time the tumulus was built, and a stone room that was reproduced in full scale.
In the exhibition hall, in addition to the history of the discovery and restoration of the tombs, comparisons with nearby tombs, and the environment at the time were introduced in an easy-to-understand manner, which was a great learning experience. The burial person is one of the few burial mounds in Japan, and the size of the burial mound that is not nearby, and the pattern of the metal fittings of the sword sheath of the sword that was excavated, it is not a powerful person in this area who was involved in the establishment of Musashi Kokufu. The guess was convinced.
The size and interior of the Ishimuro exhibit have been faithfully reproduced. For this reason, there is no lighting inside and the lights and helmet are borrowed from the explainer in darkness. As you step into the room and watch out for the rugged floor stones, the ceiling suddenly rises as you head toward the room. Amateurs can understand that the interior of the stone room was carefully made, and you can feel the height of civil engineering technology at the time.
