Karasuyama Station

The terminal station of the JR Karasuyama Line, which opened in 1918. In the current station building in 2014. The design of the station building may have been inspired by the mountain fried festival. At the end of the station, there is also an overhead line for charging the EV-E301 battery train. There is also a soba restaurant and bicycle rental that starts at 8 o'clock in front of the station.

The Karasuyama Line is non-electrified, but there is an overhead line at part of this station, and you can see the EV-E301 series charging. Since I had more time, I took about 30 minutes to see Ryumon Falls.

In October 2010, I transferred from Ueno to the Tohoku Main Line and Karasuyama Line. Old diesel vehicles were still running at this time, and the station building was also old. At present, the station building has been renewed, and the train has changed to a battery train, but I think the atmosphere as the terminal station is not bad at all.

The station building has a novel shape. On the Karasuyama Line, a vehicle called EV-E301 series, which is a storage battery train, is active, but at this Karasuyama Station, a rigid overhead line is installed to charge the train during the turnaround stop time. I think it is quite unusual for a vehicle that came with the pantograph lowered to once raise the pantograph to charge it, then lower the pantograph again and then turn back and depart. By the way, there is a restaurant in front of the station.
