I love this guesthouse! Staff is very kind and the place is calm and clean. They have good food and excellent breakfast.

Nice and simple hostel. The mixed dormitory is connected with the main check in building and shower rooms which could be problematic to some guests. The onsen can only accommodate one person at a time. You can rent a towel at the front desk as well. It's a bit far from any station, and up a bit of a slope. I drove to the hostel and paid an extra ¥500 for parking.

Location is good and on the bus route, not too far of a walking distance even from the train stations. The woman who seemed to be the owner or main staffer was SO kind, and spoke at least both Japanese and English, which made our stay very easy. The private onsen is a one-person, no-reservations deal, and it's free to use (ignoring the onsen charge everyone has to pay anyway, which is totally the norm in Hakone). Breakfast was okay for 500; wouldn't go crazy about it, but it was definitely convenient. The dorm room and shared bathroom were both great. Very clean, and the other guests were very respectful of me and each other. I was under the vague impression that this was like a ryokan, but it is not like a ryokan. It's just a relatively nice place to stay, especially on a budget. Also there was free barley tea in the common area!

Enjoyed my stay, it is quite a steep area so not for the older person if walking around, a sign on both corners would be helpful to locate the place. I found the best way to get here was get off at Kowakidani train station, proceed downhill past the fire station, shortly after the fire station there is a shortcut on the right that joins back up to the same road down the hill, keep walking until you get to a nice bridge where the road makes a left turn, take the road to the right and follow that past a water wheel and the guesthouse will shortly be on your right hand side. The hot tub is great but can be in high demand, it is open 24hrs a day and I used it many times during my 2 night stay. The traditional Japanese bedding is like sleeping on a yoga mattress, the pillows are not much either, if you are after the Hilton then pay 4 times the price and stay elsewhere. For the price I say it is worth the stay here

Very nice place and service. Thanks to the owner couple. Buy earplugs, other guests might wake you at night and morning. There is a curtain that makes a noice. Ask for hiking tips, I got really nice ones! Food is great!
