Some marvellous sculptures set in a lovely house. Complete with view back over Tokyo.

A peaceful place with exceptionally kind staff. For those who love sculpture or pursue study yourself, your soul will be moved. This space will touch those who appreciate thoughtful details in design as the residence and garden are breathtaking. The very lovely English guide could see I was enjoying the exhibition and gave me a map/guide for finding more of Asakura’s works in public spaces throughout a Taito City.

We had initially came in on a misunderstanding (and to get out of the rain), but this was by far one of the best "mistakes" to have made. The history behind the building, its architecture, and the visionary that built it was fascinating. The best part of this place was being able to observe the central garden. On a rainy day, this was one of the most peaceful places you can find in the world. The only thing we were not able to see was the rooftop garden, which was closed door to the rain (shoes have to be taken off prior to entering the building). For a ¥500 entrance fee, this was well worth the time and money.

Asakura Museum of Sculpture 朝倉彫塑館 is dedicated to the work of Asakura Fumio 朝倉文夫 (1883-1964). There is no photography anywhere within the museum but there are a couple of pieces in the courtyard. The museum is the former home and studio of the sculptor. The exhibits in the main, large studio rotate through the museum's collection. If you are agile, there is a third floor roof outdoor viewing deck that affords a splendid view of the gardens, the Yanaka neighborhood & the Skytree. Both the Tokyo Museum Grutto Pass and the Ueno Welcome Passport include free admission to this museum.

Interesting and intimate museum, formerly the sculptor's residence, with helpful staff and guides. Beautiful house and garden.
