Quite surprising! A lot of great western art. It's not a huge museum, but the collection it's very good. Highly recommend if you're into art museums. If you're visiting the other museums nearby it's with tying this in. Also check the exhibits, they have amazing exhibits. They had a Rubens exhibit last time, this trip they'll have a London National Gallery exhibit on the last day we're in Tokyo! Thank goodness for 645pm flight!

I like the exhibitions they have in this museum, the place is quite big and nice. Me and my friends always enjoy attending the art exhibitions they have. I wish they can provide more English translations inside the exhibitions.

No visitor here should miss the Tokyo National Museum, a complex of four building devoted to Japanese art and archaeology dating back to the prehistoric Jomon and Yayoi periods. Outstanding among the exhibits are Buddhist sculpture of the tenth-and 11th century Heian era, illustrated narrative scrolls form the 13th century Kamakura period, painting by the great Muromachi artist Sesshu. Also exhibited are woodblock prints by Katsushika Hokusai, Utamaro and Hiroshige who were Edo-period masters.

Amazing museum. It's big, confortable, the collections were bigger than I expected. It was a very good surprise for the price :)

There's a really nice collection of paintings here. I'm not a huge fan of the religious art section, but the other work is always great to come back to, from the Degas statues and sculpture to the Monet and Van Gogh paintings. You can buy your ticket ahead of time online and if you're visiting during the weekend this is recommended as the line can be long.
