The best decision I made was to rent a car with my international licence. Toyota Rent a Car are your best option if you are looking to rent a car whilst you are in Japan. With English navigation and cars of all sizes for rent. But I would strongly recommend using a small car as many Japan has many little lane ways and narrow roads that you will have to navigate. The Toyota staff are fantastic and have OK English but I would rely more on Google Translate as it will get you out the door faster. Just make sure you get an ETC toll road card from the staff, it will cost a little but saves a lot of time at the toll booth's. Just keep in mind that using the toll roads in Japan can cost as much as the car rental fee.

We rented a Vitz Hybrid for a long weekend and had a very positive experience. The staff at this branch was friendly and helpful. The car was clean and comfortable. It felt like a brand new car. It was my first time to rent a Hybrid, which is more expensive than a similar size non-hybrid . However, it was well worth it. The Hybrid is a nicer vehicle all around. It came with GPS navigation built in (no charge), and the gas mileage was incredible.

At the store, the employees didn't have any particular attitude, but when I had something to ask and called, the response was a bit ... "Ah ..." I said too much ...? I'm sure you're tired, but I was worried about the sluggish way of speaking.
