Easy 15min walk from Kakunodate station to Samurai Residential area. Six samurai families once made up this area. A well, kept-intact town showing samurai jidai. Some residences not open to public. Autumn, beautiful time to visit. Spring, the 400? cherry blossom trees including the weeping blossom trees ... a guilty 2021 adventure!

Great place , I can imagine it will be even more beautiful at spring and autumn season when the leaves turn into multiple colours. Also winter season when the snow creates magic . Will visit again for sure !!

Once we found out which Street had all the historic houses we then had to find parking. Most attractions or touristy destinations have several carparks with 500 Yen charges. We just went into one of these. We then walked to where the dwellings were and paid a small entrance fee to get in. There was lots of things to see and the kids loved seeing the samurai armour and weapons. One thing I thought they could change for this area is to block off traffic along the main samurai Street. It's very busy with pedestrians AND vehicles driving along which makes it difficult to supervise children walking along. It also makes it harder to get good pictures!

A bit of a confusing layout but rooms are very cozy and have private onsen. Quiet and comfortable atmosphere
